Weird Aussie Foods Or Weird Foods In General

So seen as though I am an Aussie, I thought I would do a blog post on all the foods that we eat over here, that others may find unusual. Please comment if you are an Aussie and you feel I have left something out, or if you are from another country and you want to know about a particular food, please ask!

So obviously I had to do a bit of research when do this blog post and even the first thing that I looked up to get a bit of information (Aussie biscuits) I discovered that my American friends don't call a biscuit like we do. So I looked and my American friends call a biscuit to what us Aussies call a scone. So we have scones with jam and cream or like me with butter or margarine and we normally also have them with a cup of tea or coffee. My Grandmother makes scones with 3 ingredients and they are so light and fluffy, and I absolutely love them! But anyway back to Aussie biscuits. So what we call a biscuit, is actually a cracker or a cookie in the USA. Most of our biscuits are sweet and a lot of them involve a lot of chocolate. If you have never tried a Tim Tam Slam, you haven't lived yet! HA-HA! So our most popular biscuits in Oz I thin would be the Tim Tam. So they are a chocolate biscuit (cookie for my American friends), with a chocolate cream filling, then the whole biscuit is covered in chocolate. If you are able to order yourself a packet of Tim Tams, please do! You will never regret it! We also have crackers and our most popular brand is called Jatz. So even when you buy the cheaper version, your Mum will still ask "Did you get the Jatz?", she won't ask if you got the crackers, because it would then be Christmas time and she's talking about bon bons! HA-HA!

Anyway so an Aussie food that I think most other countries really struggle with is Vegemite. Ok, so Vegemite is a spread that we have on our toast or sandwiches and people also add things like cheese or avocado to the toast or bread. It has a very strong flavour and a lot of people from other countries find that it is extremely bitter in flavour. Sounds so disgusting right?! You should see what it looks like once I have put it on my toast! HA-HA! It is basically a very dark brown/black colour and it has quite a thick texture. Most Aussies like Vegemite and if someone doesn't like Vegemite, we normally tell them that they are UnAustralian.. HA-HA! I will include some photos of Vegemite for you. If you do decide to order some and try it for yourself, please I am begging you, DO NOT spread that s**t on thick!! You will not like it at all! You will screw your face up from the bitterness and probably want to spit it out! Also DO NOT put it on a spoon and then eat it!! You could quite possibly vomit!! HA-HA!

This is what I would call 'thick'Vegemite. This is not amateurs, do not attempt this level of Vegemite unless you have tasted it before!

Alright so the next food is actually an energy drink/malt and it is my favourite out of all that I am going to discuss. So it is called Milo and it is chocolate flavoured and you put it with milk and you get basically a chocoalte milkshake with this chocolate milo that rises to the top once it is all mixed together. Now most Aussies have their own way of drinking milo. But most Aussies feel that one or two  tablespoons of Milo is just NOT enough! HA-HA (I'm going to include a video by Carl Barron, who is an Aussie comedian doing a skit on Milo. I'm sure you will get a giggle out of it!)

Nestle Milo. You will notice the milo at the top of the glass. In my opinion, this glass does not have enough milo in it!! LOL

And lastly we have twisties! OMG! If you have never tried a twistie, you really don't know what you are missing! Twisties are what us Aussies call a 'chip'. (Chips in Australia is very confusing and that is nearly another whole blog post on that topic! HA-HA!) But anyway, we consider them a chip and they only come in 2 flavours. Cheese and Chicken. Now there is always a things about twisties. When you are with your friends or a family member and it nearly becomes an all out argument over what flavour is better. Now in my opinion chicken is by far the better flavour. Now don't get me wrong, I like the cheese flavour, I just think that the chicken flavour is so much better. Plus the chicken flavour seems more salty and well I'm a salty person.. HA-HA!

Cheese Twisities, I like this flavour, but I love the chicken flavour so much more!!!

So if you aren't an Aussie, have you tried any of our foods or been over here to experience our cuisine? If you have tried any of our foods, what were they? I'd love to hear your responses!

Observe Nature - Kmart Journal Entry

When did you last see the sunset or sunrise? When did you last go for a bushwalk? When did you last swim in the ocean? Describe these times. What's your favourite place in nature - why? Great questions Kmart Journal! Ha-Ha!  The last time that I watched a sunset or sunrise was the about three mornings when I woke up at 4:40am (not sleeping the best at the moment) and couldn't get back to sleep, so I did get to see the sunrise. It was also very peaceful and I find that now that I am waking up a bit earlier, that I am more productive with my day, especially in the mornings. I am going to try and start to get up earlier. I have always been a bit of a night owl, therefore I find it hard to get to bed early and end up sleeping in later.  I haven't been on a bush walk for quite some time, but I do try to walk my dog every day and I get to walk to the waterfront whenever I want!  I am not that fond of creepy crawlies, so I don't like to do many bush walks in case I see a creep...

Saying No - Kmart Journal Entry

How easy is it for you to say no? For myself, I struggle to say to nearly every single person that I come across in my life. I guess you would call me a people pleaser, who also says what she thinks.  I think that the BPD may play a bit of a part in that though.  Ever since I was a little girl I was taught that I should try and help others when I possibly can, even if it means giving the person my last dollar. I can say that doing this has f**ked me up financially more times than I can count! And I truly have tried extremely hard to help every single person that has asked me for help. But lately I am starting to feel like I am just a sucker when it comes to particular people and helping them. It seems like the friendships are very one sided and I seem to be the one always doing the work.  I do know that I have to learn to start saying no, and I am slowly doing it. I am noticing that I am not hearing from particular people, because I am saying no and not jumping to their e...
